Stanwell House, situated in a fantastic central location on the High Street, is known for its beautifully decorated interiors. Guests often enjoy the delicious breakfast, especially the eggy brioche with crispy bacon. The restaurant receives high praise, particularly the seafood platter and fresh haddock, with the sharing board from the sea being fantastic value; however, some found the lunch menu to be average. A few guests have noted that some rooms can be particularly small.

underwhelming lunch experience

inadequate service small portion
I had lunch at the bar and was disappointed overall. some staff were friendly, though some seemed completely out of their depth. when i placed my order, the staff did not know what the soup of the day was and had to ask the kitchen. I found this unprofessional. the soup arrived with only a quarter of a bread roll. This felt stingy, furthermore, my pulled pork portion was tasty but noticeably small.

seafood platter fresh haddock excellent meal small room stressful parking king-sized bed
The restaurant offered excellent meals from a fairly short menu. beautiful surroundings were visible everywhere. i enjoyed a superb dinner there. The seafood platter was one of the nicest i have experienced, and i relished the fresh haddock.
The room i stayed in was particularly small. the bed in the room was not king-sized. i found the parking stressful and cramped. It felt quite limited.

adequate stay, but disappointing food

glutenous sauce soggy fries
the room was nicely decorated with comfortable bed and good quality linens.
i visited for lunch and the food was very average to my taste. i ordered half a lobster and it came with a thick glutenous sauce plastered all over it. my husband ordered sea bass but that came with the same sauce all over it too i think the fries were frozen and soggy.

I found the staff attentive and professional. The decoration throughout the hotel is exquisite. My dinner and breakfast were both delicious. I especially enjoyed the eggy brioche with crispy bacon and maple syrup for breakfast. The hotel has a fantastic location directly within the town center.
The hot water tap in my room rotated clockwise to turn on, it made the use of the water difficult, which I didn't expect.
